Rail Trails for NSW are learning about other potential trails – check out the photos from the Helebsburg to Stanwell Park recently brought to our attention on this disused line linking southern sydney with the Illawarra. The stanwell park end would provide a perfect option to get up the escarpment. Since the announcement of funding for regional tourism infrastructure in the 2014 NSW State Budget which potentially includes funds an inital section of a Rail Trail, there ahs been media interest from the different regions of NSW
Government response to this report is due later in the year
linking tourism, heritage and the rural environment
– government is looking for ‘unity of voice’ in any RT proposals
The invitation also has attachments detailing currently identified potential and existing rail trails in NSW and a copy of an economic study on the impact of cycle tourism commissioned by the Alpine Shire Council in Victoria where the Murray to Mountains rail trail is located. It makes for some interesting reading.
